Is the ticket software broken?
It’s really what I’m wondering. Is the box office software broken? Literally no one is buying tickets to the show that opens at my place tonight. It is a show that played off-Broadway to nice reviews “one of the most important plays of the decade” according to the venerable NYTimes.
I have two billboards on the two major interstates that run through town. I have banners at significant intersections in town. I have bought space on the local media outlet’s web pages and eblasts. It’s all over our FaceBook page, which is linked to our Twitter account. It is in our season brochures and rack cards. Students have been offered $5 tickets. And free tickets.
No one is buying tickets. It’s a 21 or 16 dollar ticket. For a legitimate off-Broadway show. In a 402 seat theater. That isn’t hard to find. It’s in the middle of 6 million people.
Now, I know it’s not broken because some of our holiday offerings are slowly picking up. But geez, I did something really wrong with this one. Something really really wrong.
